But here the Mississippi-born Tyrone Davis produced a string of sophisticated singles that lingered at the top of the R & B charts in the early 1970s. His voice had a bit of the heartache of Bobby "Blue" Bland. Starting his career as a blues "shouter," Davis grew into the rich, mellow, mature voice of his pleading ballads. "If I Could Turn Back the Hands of Time" always makes me want to do just that - look back to a simpler, more innocent time.
